Press Release

November 2018

Bologna, Italy: For the 15th time, the Association for the Advancement of Assistive Technology in Europe (AAATE) is inviting assistive technology (AT) experts, researchers, manufacturers, providers, professionals and end users of AT and everyone who works in a field where AT is deployed, to come together and discuss the global challenges in this field.

And challenges, there are many: from technological developments that have opened the door to the introduction of ambient assisted living (AAL), smart environments and the Internet of Things (IoT), social assistive robotics, digital health, virtual and augmented reality, while also raising questions about ethical use of these new possibilities, data privacy and self-determination of users, to societal changes that make assistive technology ever more relevant and needed.

Discussions and presentations will centre around questions such as: What are the new the new merging and innovative assistive technology solutions for cognitive, sensory and motor disabilities? How do we improve the delivery of AT solutions and services to the persons who need it? How do we assure the delivery of both AT solutions and services to the entire global population that might benefit from it? And many more.

AAATE’s 2019 conference is the opportunity to get a broad as well as in-depth picture of new developments and research outcomes in Assistive Technology. It is the platform for researchers to share their work and present in front of an international expert community in the venerable atmosphere of the oldest university in the world, namely the University of Bologna. It is the space for regional authorities to hear about pilot projects, new policies and technological advancements. It is a 3 day master class for professionals working with AT to learn about the newest trends in both solutions and service delivery. It is the place to be and connect with peers for everyone working in the field of AT and accessibility.
