AAATE Newsletter 2026#4

Our General Assembly took place, as planned on September 22. The documentation is available in the Member’s area of the website; The minutes will be available in the same place asap.

Our journal, Technology and Disability, published by SAGE, have seen the number of submissions increase considerably over the last year. One reason may be that the journal received an impact factor, and this year it grew a bit (0.8). The down side of this increase is that it gets more difficult to find reviewers. As a AAATE member, Technology and Disability is your journal. We invite members who are involved in research to participate in reviewing when a paper is within their field of expertise. Let’s remember that the quality of a scientific journal lays in the reviewer’s team’s 🙂

As you know AAATE is a member of the GAATO : the Global Alliance of Assistive Technologies Organizations. The GAATO General Assembly 2026 will take place on 19 October. It will include 2 parts. At the member only part, only representatives from each member organisation can attend. But prior to that, a public part, entitled “Assistive Technology: advancing high-quality, sustainable local production of assistive products”, will be open to all members of GAATO member organisations (from 13:00 to 14:00). 2 speakers : Shona McDonald (Founder and Director, Shonaquip Social Enterprise) and Sisary Kheng (CEO, Exceed Worldwide). Both have deep and extensive knowledge and expertise in assistive technology provision in diverse settings. Shona joins us from South Africa with a focus on wheelchairs. Sisary joins us from Cambodia with a focus on prosthetics. There will be opportunities for question and answer with our speakers.
